Andy Monroe - Joyful Noise 1, Joyful Noise 2 and Rain
Andy’s CD’s are an amazing flow of music and voice. While each CD has at least one song with lyrics, most cuts are instrumentals with vocalizations. Yet they convey a great amount of feeling, and a wide range of emotions. I often find myself putting all three of his works in the CD player on ‘repeat’ and listening to them through the course of my day without ever getting tired of them.
Andy is based in NYC, and besides his playing, has devoted a great deal of time with the OutMusic organization, helping new musical voices be heard.
On the Rain CD, the third package I worked on with Andy, he presented me with some very strong ideas for the imagery... and no small difficulties in executing them.
I loved his ideas of using words and his own body to make powerful images, as with the two images of the printed word “rain” and actual water in his hand. His sense of humor came though in the idea of listing the ‘body’ of work titles on HIS body, and the main spread image is my favorite of all I’ve shot for a commercial venture. It’s emotional, beautiful and sexy all at the same time. I included a print of it in my one-man show in early 2003.
AND the music on it is wonderful. |
